Total Retro Review

Wow! What a super day.

Not often you hear that from me. Particularly about me sitting in a field, in Cumbria, in dodgy weather, on a Sunday, after getting up early to get there!

TotalRetroBoot

However, David and his pals have generated a laid back, festival feel, motor and more show which really worked for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not rich after it, there’s always the sale that got away, but we can become richer in more ways than simple finance. These guys created a real festival vibe with marquee, auto jumble, artizan, bespoke and the downright weird (taxi photobooth with no engine and mirrored windows serviced by a Pearly King) mixing well with petrolheads, skateboarders and BMX’ers. The place was busy from early, there was plenty to see and do for visitors, and it seemed to me that any grump pots had been refused entry at the gate. The happy, smiling and friendly vibe continued all day!

The BMX’ers were awesome, using a transit van roof as a take off platform these guys got big, I mean BIG air, and pulled off fantastic tricks normally reserved for the X-Games arenas.

Our hosts were super, sorting out any issues and always smiling as they went.

The cars on display seemed to have come from miles. There were plenty, and the quality of some was very good.

I don’t normally review events, let’s face it, if they’re no good I won’t be there next time. But with TotalRetroShow I’ve already asked for an invite next time. I hope the boys are waking this Monday morning with a well deserved hang over and warm glow from the excellent reviews they deserve. Other firsts for me include my first “TurnedOutNice” sponsorship and mention in programme and on tannoy, and first sale of the new hub cap clock items.TotalRetroSponsor

Great day, great hosts, great vibe!TotalRetroTrophy

See you all next time!

Total Retro Show – Westmorland Showground LA7 7NH

I’ll be there from bright and early on Sunday. Turnedoutnice.co.uk is delighted to sponsor the “Show ‘n’ Shine” competition. The trophy is made out of turned Lignum Vitae – the hardest and densest wood traded (legally) in the world. It’s what they used to make police truncheons out of and the piece here has fantastic colouration and was begging to have some antique oil shine. Atop is a Renault conrod.

ShownShineTrophyI’m looking forward to seeing some awesome 70’s cars, as well as talking all things petrol and showing off some new unique items.

I’ve got a rear brake disk from a BMW ’80’s motorbike – now a wall clock. The wood is fixed to the disk using two sixpenny piece washers, re-cycle, re-use!

BMWDiskClockFinally, to go with the stripped and reused Yamaha R1 Gearbox which is now a bunch of desk tidies, I’ve got a range of hubcap clocks.

Have I gone Hatstand?

You decide!

I’ve got a “Deals with the Devil” in red for hanging your cloak off.

I’ve a drunk octopus wanting to fight you (on a Ghost Stories book).

And a “Modern Trout Fishing” by W. Carter Platts, not that I’m fishing for a compliment!

FishCoat

Have a great day, and let me know what you think of the latest to come out of my “Man Cave” (a.k.a. The Garage!)

Not On The High Street

Look what Not On The High Street has done, apparently to try to promote small business and Mothers Day.

Mothers Day, yeah, I can see that, but promoting small businesses? I’d like the royal family a whole lot more if these were real and not the fakes they are.

Genuine gear – always at Turnedoutnice. Have a great Sunday.

Now that’s great!

What a great treat and tweet to get on a Sunday!

My friend and co-host radio geek from the movies, @RobRidgley has just sent me a photo of a pen I made.

His mum has given it to him as a gift for his recent birthday. Where did she get it? Why, from me, on a stall a few weeks ago.

She clearly has taste, AND knows her son well.  Happy Birthday Robin!
